Sushi is not just a dish: it’s a tradition, a technique, and an experience.

At Funky Geisha, we serve freshly made sushi, with precise cuts and artistic presentation. To help you enjoy it to the fullest, we’re sharing a quick guide on how to eat sushi like a true connoisseur.

  1. Use chopsticks… or your hands

Yes, in traditional Japanese culture, it’s perfectly fine to eat nigiri sushi with your hands, especially if you’re at the bar or having premium sushi. Just make sure to have a wet napkin to clean your hands.

  2. Don’t drown the sushi in soy sauce

Sushi shouldn’t “swim” in soy sauce. Just lightly dip the fish part, not the rice. At Funky Geisha, our sushi is designed to be eaten with a balanced flavor.

  3. Ginger isn’t for topping

Ginger (gari) is a palate cleanser between bites, not something to mix with sushi. Also, don’t stir the wasabi into the soy sauce (unless you’re eating fusion rolls, like Funky-style).

  4. Eat each piece in one bite

Sushi is served in the perfect size to be eaten in one bite. Cutting it or biting into it breaks the structure.

  5. At Funky Geisha: Enjoy sushi as an experience

Our nigiris, sashimis, and rolls are made with fresh fish of the day, perfectly seasoned vinegared rice, and served with artistic decoration.

Whether in Cancún, overlooking the lagoon, or in Los Cabos, by the sea, sushi is a ceremony that you can complement with sake or one of our botanical cocktails.
